AI video generator GitHub guide
Run an AI video generator from GitHub, or skip the setup.
Weighing an open-source repo against a hosted tool? Here is the repo route step by step, and the one-prompt way in Frameo.
How to run it from GitHub
Four steps from repo to rendered video.
The open-source route, in order, before the first frame renders. Or type the same prompt into Frameo and skip the setup.
Clone the repo and check the GPU
Clone the open-source text-to-video repo. Read its GPU and VRAM requirements before anything else, so you know your machine can run it.
Set up Python and dependencies
Create a virtual environment. Install the requirements file inside it, so the repo's packages stay apart from the rest of your system.
Download the model weights
Fetch the checkpoints the README points to. They are large, so check your disk space first.
Run the inference script
Pass a prompt to the script. Then tune frames and resolution until the output holds up.
The repo route, live
What a GitHub video model install looks like.
Clone, install, fetch weights, generate. Every step runs on your machine, so every step waits on your hardware.
> git clone <repo-url> t2v
> cd t2v
> pip install -r requirements.txt

Repo against hosted
Self-hosted GitHub model or Frameo: row by row.
Same prompt, two routes. One starts with your hardware and an environment. The other starts with a sign-in.
| Compared | Self-hosting a GitHub repo | Making it in Frameo |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | Your own GPU with enough VRAM for the model. | No GPU of your own. It runs in Frameo. |
| Setup | Environment, dependencies and weights before the first frame. | Sign in and type a prompt. |
| Model updates | You pull the repo and reinstall what changed. | New models appear on the canvas. |
| Switching models | A new repo and a new setup each time. | Every frontier model, one canvas. |
| Length and ratio | Whatever the script and your VRAM allow. | Choose the length and 16:9 or 9:16 for each video. |
| Editing and sound | Separate tools for the cut, the voice and the score. | Edit, voiceover and sound in one workspace. |
| Cost model | Your hardware and your electricity. | Credits pay for generation, and the exact cost of a render is shown before you start it. |
Skip the install
Same prompt, no install.
Type what you would pass to --prompt and open it in Frameo.
AI video generator GitHub questions
Yes. Several open-source text-to-video repos are public and worth trying if you are comfortable with Python and a GPU. Frameo is an AI video production platform that runs frontier models for you, with no install or GPU.
Most need a recent GPU with plenty of VRAM, and longer or higher-resolution clips need more. Each repo's README lists its own requirements, so read it before you clone.
For a repo, check its licence and the licence on the model weights, because the two can differ. With Frameo, you retain ownership of what you make. The Terms of Use set out the full details.
You can create from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor through the Frameo MCP server. Setup steps are on the MCP page.
Connect the MCP serverShip the video tonight, not the environment.
Skip the clone, the weights and the VRAM check. Write the scene once and let Frameo cast, block, light and cut it.
