How to make a cartoon explainer

Four steps, like flipping a storyboard.

  1. 01

    Write the script in beats

Split it into problem, turn, solution and ask. Keep each beat to one short line, so every line becomes one scene.

  2. Slow steady push in toward a tablet standing on an animator's desk, its screen showing a flat 2D cartoon scene of a round-headed character beside a pastel shopfront, no text, warm desk lamp light from

    02

    Pick your character and style

Choose flat 2D, rounded shapes or line-art. Then give one character the whole story to carry.

  3. Starting from a clean top-down view, the camera descends and tilts into a close three-quarter angle of a fanned stack of paper storyboard cards on a desk, each card a flat colour field in coral, mint

    03

Generate each scene from its beat

Frameo makes one scene per line and keeps your character the same from shot to shot.

  4. Locked-off static shot of a cork board with four paper storyboard panels pinned in a row, each a flat cartoon scene in pastel colour fields with a round-headed character, lit by a warm desk lamp from

    04

    Add voiceover, captions and music

Pick an AI voice or record your own. Then export 16:9 for your site or 9:16 for social.

Example storyboard

One script, four scenes: Pip the billing helper.

1

Problem

Invoices pile up every month

2

Turn

Meet Pip, your billing helper

3

Solution

Pip sends them in one tap

4

Ask

Try Pip on your next invoice

Each line became one scene, with the same Pip in all four.

Cartoon explainer video questions

What is a cartoon explainer video?

A cartoon explainer video is a short animated film: a friendly character walks the viewer through one problem and its solution. Frameo makes it from your script, one scene per line.

How long should a cartoon explainer be?

Most land at 60–90 seconds and stick to one idea. If you have more to say, make a second video rather than a longer one. Around 150 words of voiceover fills 60 seconds.

How do I keep the same character in every scene?

Pick one character and one cartoon style before you generate. Frameo carries both from shot to shot, so the guide in scene four looks like the guide in scene one.

Can I use my own voiceover or pick an AI voice?

Both work. Record your own voiceover, or choose an AI voice and language, then add captions and music before you export.

Which aspect ratio should I use for my website or social?

Use 16:9 for your website, landing page or presentation. Use 9:16 for social shorts, Reels and TikTok.

Can I use my logo and brand colors?

Yes. Add your logo as an asset and name your brand colors in the prompt, so the character, props and backgrounds follow them.
