How to edit a YouTube video

Four steps from raw footage to upload.

Edit a YouTube video the way you would brief an editor: footage in, hook first, chapters last.

  1. Drop in your footage or script

The + takes MP4 and MOV. No footage yet? Paste a script and Frameo builds the shots for you.

  2. Cut the hook into the first 15 seconds

Name the moment that should open the video. Frameo pulls it forward and trims the lead-in around it.

  3. Add B-roll, captions and chapter titles

Gaps get B-roll, talk gets captions, and every section gets its own chapter title.

  4. Export 16:9 and a 9:16 Short

Export the 16:9 upload and a vertical Short from the same edit. No second project, no re-cutting.

How one 9-minute desk-setup review came together.

Five stages, from one talking-head take to a finished upload and a Short. Each stage names the tool that did the work.

  1. Raw footage

    MOV upload

The talking-head take goes in as a MOV through the + button. It is the only footage the review starts from.

  2. Hook cut

    Manto

Manto picks the strongest line and moves it into the first 15 seconds, so the video opens on the point.

  3. B-roll for gaps

    Kling 3.0 Turbo

Desk and gear shots are generated where the talk runs long, so the picture never sits on one angle.

Extreme close-up of a black microphone's mesh pop filter on a boom arm, the mesh weave tack-sharp and the loft studio softly out of focus behind, tiny warm window highlight on the metal rim.
  4. Captions and music

    Add Subtitles skill

Captions follow the speech, and a music bed sits under the talk.

  5. Thumbnail and Short

    Nano Banana 2

A thumbnail still comes from the best frame. Video Aspect Reframe cuts the best minute as a 9:16 Short.
